Weichai Power's Tan Xuguang Resigns Due to Age, Successor Announced

Due to age reasons, he applied to resign from his positions as the company's chairman/legal representative, director, and chairman of the Strategic Development and Investment Committee. After resigning from the above positions, he will no longer hold a position in the company.
At the same time, in view of Tan Xuguang's resignation from the above positions, the board of directors agreed to elect director Ma Changhai as the chairman of the company's 7th board of directors and the chairman of the Strategic Development and Investment Committee, and also as the company's legal representative. The term of office starts from the date of the resolution of this meeting until the expiration of the 7th board of directors.
TapTechNews noted that Tan Xuguang, as the soul figure of Weichai Power, is now 63 years old and has been over-aged in service. He was born in February 1961 and started working at the Weifang Diesel Engine Factory in 1977. He served as the chairman and chief engineer of Weichai Power Co., Ltd. in 2003. On January 19, 2024, Tan Xuguang was awarded the title of National Outstanding Engineer.
Tan Xuguang's previous remarks have attracted online attention. For example, in 2022, he said that for new energy vehicles, especially passenger cars, there will be a disastrous overcapacity of production capacity, and he denied the widespread application of driverless technology, saying don't listen to their nonsense.
In March this year, Tan Xuguang held the Lao Tan Meeting Room in Weifang, Shandong, and expressed his views on issues such as new energy, driverless, and the heavy truck import and export market. He believes that new energy cannot replace diesel engines. The future new energy transition of commercial vehicles is from small to large, and the light trucks in urban transportation are more suitable for the promotion of new energy. Two years later, he still believes that new energy vehicles will face a crisis of overcapacity, saying that the realization of driverless and even assisted driving is based on serving specific scenarios.
