MediaTek's Future Focus 5G, AI, Automotive Chips and Arm Architecture

On May 27, TapTechNews reported that according to United Daily News, during the shareholder meeting held today, MediaTek's chairman, Tsai Ming-kai, stated that 5G, AI, automotive chips, and the Arm architecture computing market will be the company's focus for the next 10 years.

Tsai Ming-kai said that in the future, AI will extend from the cloud to the edge. MediaTek has long been布局 in the edge such as mobile phones and the Internet of Things and has accumulated 'quite a lot of technologies,' possessing the 'ticket' to enter the cloud market. The development of the cloud ASIC market, 5G, AI, automotive, and the Arm architecture will be the company's focus for the next 10 years. Although the current revenue proportion is not high, the progress is quite smooth.

Tsai Ming-kai further stated that MediaTek is about to reach its 27th anniversary. In the early days, it mainly focused on consumer and computer peripheral chips, and then developed mobile phone chips. Currently, there are various consumer products such as televisions. The core technologies are computing, multimedia, and communication, integrating various chip IPs to provide system-on-a-chip (SoC). In terms of the three core technologies, the company will provide system SoC, adopt TSMC's 5nm, 4nm, and 3nm technologies and continue to move forward. In the future, it will continue to make efforts to advance the research and development of new technologies.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, MediaTek's consolidated operating revenue in the first quarter of this year reached NT$133.458 billion (about RMB 30.028 billion currently), an increase of 39.5% year-on-year and 3% quarter-on-quarter.
