Apple Pushes macOS 14.5 Update with New Features for Mac Users

TechNews Express on May 14th, Apple pushed the macOS 14.5 official update (internal version number: 23F79 same as RC) to Mac computer users today. This is the fifth update of the macOS Sonoma operating system released in September last year, more than two months after the last macOS Sonoma 14.4 update.

Eligible Mac users can download the macOS Sonoma 14.5 update for free through 'Software Updates' in System Preferences. For users still using macOS Ventura, the version number of this update is 13.6.7, while macOS Monterey is updated to 12.7.5.

The macOS Sonoma 14.5 update introduces a new daily word game Quartiles for Apple News+ subscribers, allowing users to track the statistics and winning streak records in News+ games. Here is a summary of the update log released by Apple:

News+ puzzle leaderboards provide new player data, including crossword puzzles, mini crossword puzzles, and statistics and winning streak records for Quartiles

Some features may not be available due to regional or device differences.

As the macOS Sonoma development cycle comes to an end, the 14.5 version is likely to be one of the final feature updates for this system. Apple is currently focusing on developing a new generation operating system, macOS 15, which will be released at the WWDC conference next month.

How to upgrade iOS/iPadOS/watchOS/macOS developer and public beta?

To upgrade to iOS/iPadOS 17 developer preview and public beta, refer to the shared experiences of your friends: Experience post one || Experience post two || Experience post three || Experience post four.

Starting from iOS/iPadOS 16.4 developer preview Beta1, you need to register for the Apple Developer Program. After registration, open System Preferences and then 'Software Update' to see the upgrade option. Please note that your iPhone or iPad must be logged in with the same Apple ID as the one used for registering the Apple Developer Program to see the upgrade option in the Settings.

In future iOS and iPadOS versions, this new setting will be the way to enable developer previews and public betas, and configuration profile will no longer grant permission.
