TapTechNews noticed that the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show is not sudden. As early as when it was first suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it indicated its difficult situation. Four years later, although the Geneva Motor Show briefly returned in 2024, the scene was rather lackluster, with only Lucid, Renault Group, and some Chinese automakers participating, and the former prosperity no longer exists.

The chairman of the organizing committee, Alexandre de Senarclens, said in a statement that this is a regrettable decision, but considering the overall difficult situation of the industry, the competition brought by the strong support of local automakers in the Paris and Munich motor shows, and the high cost required to maintain such a large-scale exhibition, holding the Geneva Motor Show has become unsustainable.

Although the Geneva Motor Show is cancelled in Switzerland, its brand will continue. Just like in 2023, Qatar will hold an automotive event named Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) in 2025. Sandro Mesquita, the chief executive officer of the organizing committee, expressed optimism, The first GIMS held in Qatar was a success, and we believe that with the professional ability and experience of the original team, we can create another top event in the automotive industry.

The motor show is still welcomed by some brands around the world, and the influence of the Geneva Motor Show in the Middle East has also been strengthened, which is gratifying. Mesquita concluded.

A car show with a long history has come to an end, which is unavoidably a pity. However, the future direction of the motor show is also worth discussing. At the beginning of this year, Stellantis Group announced its withdrawal from all corporate displays at North American motor shows. But on the other hand, the Los Angeles Motor Show achieved great success last year, and the custom car show SEMA also remains popular. The cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show may lead the industry to further think about the form of the motor show. Will there be other motor shows to follow suit in the future? Time will tell the answer.
