China's Automobile Ownership and New Energy Vehicle Data Update in 2024

TapTechNews July 8th news, the Ministry of Public Security released the latest statistical data today (July 8th). As of the end of June 2024, the national vehicle ownership reached 440 million, including 345 million cars; there are 532 million motor vehicle drivers, among which 496 million are car drivers.

In the first half of 2024, 16.8 million new motor vehicles were registered nationwide, and 13.97 million new drivers obtained their licenses.

As of the end of June, the national new energy vehicle ownership reached 24.72 million. In the first half of the year, 4.397 million new energy vehicles were newly registered, increasing by 39.41% year-on-year, setting a new historical record.

In addition, the number of cities with vehicle ownership exceeding 1 million in the country reached 96, an increase of 8 cities year-on-year, and 43 cities exceeded 2 million, and 26 cities exceeded 3 million. Among them, Chengdu, Beijing, and Chongqing have vehicle ownership exceeding 6 million, and Shanghai, Suzhou, and Zhengzhou have vehicle ownership exceeding 5 million.

TapTechNews noticed that the number of vehicle transfer registration has continued to grow, and the used car trading market is active. In the first half of the year, a total of 17.52 million motor vehicle transfer registration transactions were handled nationwide. Among them, 16.26 million vehicle transfer registration transactions were handled, increasing by 53.79% year-on-year. There were 2.706 million second-hand mini-passenger car transactions handled through inter-provincial trading registration, indicating an active used car trading market. Nationwide, 53.07 million transactions such as online renewal of driver's licenses and vehicle licenses and issuance of temporary license plates were handled.
