Logitech Launches MX Ink Stylus for Meta Quest Headsets

TapTechNews June 18th news, Logitech officially launched its first mixed reality accessory today - the MX Ink stylus, which is suitable for Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets. The MX Ink will provide creators with a more natural way of creating than the Quest controller, making painting and modeling as easy as using a pencil or paintbrush.

Although Meta Quest's native controller has excellent tracking accuracy and low latency performance, expanding the headset's functionality beyond games and entertainment, holding these controllers feels like holding a spray can and is not suitable for fine content creation. For many artists, a stylus is more handy than a mouse or a game controller, which is why companies like Wacom have endured, and why Logitech decided to bring a stylus to the virtual reality realm.

The MX Ink is considerably bulkier than Logitech's tablet stylus (weighing 29 grams vs. only 20.7 grams for the second-generation Apple Pencil), and it can be used for 2D content creation in a mixed reality environment. It features a replaceable pressure-sensitive tip and multiple customizable buttons (programmable in Quest's settings app). The MX Ink also supports 6DoF spatial positioning and haptic feedback similar to the Quest controller, and has a main button with pressure sensing, allowing artists to more naturally sketch or manipulate models and objects in a 3D space.

According to Logitech, the MX Ink has a maximum battery life of up to 7 hours and can be charged via the built-in USB-C port or the more convenient MX Inkwell charging dock. Simply place the stylus on the dock to start charging. However, the charging dock will be sold as an optional accessory and the specific price has not been announced.

Logitech claims that the MX Ink is compatible with various Meta Quest applications, such as Adobe Substance 3D Modeler, OpenBrush, GravitySketch, and RealizeMedical. However, Logitech confirmed that its new MX Ink stylus will not support the more powerful Meta Quest Pro, and it is not listed as a compatible device on the MX Ink's product page.

Although Logitech has not provided an exact launch date yet, it says the MX Ink will be available for sale through channels such as Logitech, Meta, and Amazon later this year at a price of $129.99 (TapTechNews note: Currently about 944 yuan).
