BMW Launches Unique XM Mystique Allure Model with Supermodel Naomi Campbell
TapTechNews May 16th - If you thought the BMW XM already looked outlandish enough (subjective), BMW has brought out another unique creation. Teaming up with supermodel Naomi Campbell, BMW has launched a special edition XM model that defies tradition. The car features a purple body (Campbell's favorite color) and BMW's Chief Designer, Duma Goyi Duke, shared images of this wild SUV on Instagram.
The one-of-a-kind XM is named 'Mystique Allure' and will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival this week. The exterior is covered in purple velvet, with the interior also using this soft fabric and adorned with hundreds of sequins.
In addition, the unlocking sound as well as the welcome sound inside the vehicle are created by Grammy and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, highlighting the car's uniqueness.
TapTechNews notes that this is not BMW's first time using fabric on a car body. Back in 2008, BMW's GINA Light concept car featured a durable fabric material covering a metal structure.
In 2019, BMW also introduced an ultra-black X6 model with a Vantablack VBx2 coating that can absorb over 99% of light. The 2022 iX Flow model uses E Ink technology with millions of microcapsules finer than a hair, displaying various shades of gray. A year later, the iVision Dee concept car uses an upgraded version of E Ink technology, showing 32 colors in 240 sections of the body.
Regarding power, the BMW XM Mystique Allure is not expected to have any adjustments. For reference, the current BMW XM available in China is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system. The 3.0T plug-in hybrid system has a maximum power of 350 kW, peak torque of 700 Nm, and the 4.4T plug-in hybrid system has a maximum power of 480 kW and 550 kW, with peak torque of 800 Nm and 1000 Nm. The XM comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. The XM is powered by a 29.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTC electric range of 80 km and 78 km.
As a concept car, the BMW XM Mystique Allure will not be available for purchase. In the Chinese market, BMW offers 3 XM models with prices ranging from 1.29 million to 2.8 million RMB.
