Four years ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the 4680 battery plan at the Battery Day event. Compared to the previous 2170 battery, its single-cell energy has increased by 5 times, and the power has increased by 6 times compared to tabbed batteries, and the power output has increased by 6 times.

Currently, the progress of the 4680 battery project is really not optimistic, which has also led to the repeated postponement of that $25,000 (TapTechNews note: currently about 176,000 Chinese yuan) electric vehicle and then shelved in February this year. TheInformation also reported in July this year that Musk has lost patience and issued a military order to the 4680 battery R & D team, asking them to solve the technical problem of the battery crashing during use before the end of this year.

On September 15 this year, Tesla announced the offline of its 100 millionth 4680 battery. According to Tesla's second-quarter financial report, the production of 4680 batteries in the second quarter increased by 50% compared to the first quarter, and continues to improve the battery production cost. Tesla said that reducing the cost of the entire product series is still the company's primary task.
