Tencent Partners with Maldives Tourism Board for WeChat Pay Expansion

Tencent announced today that the Maldives Tourism Board and WeChat Pay have jointly signed a three-year memorandum of cooperation in Shanghai. The two sides will work together to promote more merchants in the Maldives to accept WeChat Pay, providing more convenient payment experiences for Chinese tourists.

According to the introduction, some places like airport duty-free stores, the popular restaurant SalaThai, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, Velaa Private Island, and Cheval Blanc Randheli Island have already supported WeChat Pay. If things go smoothly, by the end of the year, WeChat Pay can also be used in 8,000 merchants.
