World's First Open-Source On-Chip Brain-Computer Interface System Developed

TapTechNews June 26 news, TapTechNews citing Sci-Tech Daily news, the team of the Haihe Laboratory of Brain-Computer Interaction and Human-Machine Integration at Tianjin University, in collaboration with teams such as Southern University of Science and Technology, has jointly developed the world's first open-source on-chip brain-computer interface intelligent interaction system MetaBOC.

MetaBOC has enabled the unmanned control of tasks such as robot obstacle avoidance, tracking, and grasping by cultivating the brain, and completed a variety of brain-inspired computing works. The research results were recently published in the international journal Brain in the field of brain science.

Professor Ming Dong, vice president of Tianjin University, said: On-chip brain-computer interface is a technology that uses an on-chip brain formed by coupling an in vitro cultivated 'brain' (such as brain organoids) with an electrode chip, and realizes its information interaction with the outside world through encoding and decoding and stimulation-feedback. As an important emerging branch in the field of brain-computer interface, on-chip brain-computer interface is expected to promote the development of frontier scientific and technological fields such as hybrid intelligence and brain-inspired computing.
