The Importance of Focusing on Quality of Experience in the Broadband Market

TapTechNews July 2nd, a report titled was released by market research firm Omdia, mentioning that broadband still remains an important source of revenue for telecom operators.

Home terminals are not only accelerating in numbers but also evolving rapidly, incorporating more screens and more advanced technologies such as 8K video and XR (Extended Reality, a collective term for various technologies like AR, VR, and MR), all of which will pose higher requirements for broadband networks.

In response to this challenge, network operators are turning to all-fiber optic networks to provide more gigabit bandwidth to households.

By 2028, the global broadband market is expected to reach $363 billion (TapTechNews note: currently about 2.65 trillion yuan). with an average annual year-on-year growth rate of 4%. Due to the operators' focus only on broadband speed, the ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) value is difficult to increase.

The report states that broadband operators must focus on QoE ( Quality of Overall Experience), not just speed. For the services provided by operators, speed is only one indicator that consumers value, and speed alone cannot guarantee a good user experience nor contribute much to service differentiation.
