Users can include any open source software in their Docker images and promise to provide security maintenance for up to 12 years.

Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth said:

LTS means CVE maintenance of the entire open source dependency tree, including open source that has not been packaged as deb in Ubuntu.

We provide distroless or Ubuntu-based Docker images according to the user's specification, and we will provide support on RHEL, VMware, Ubuntu or major public cloud K8s.

The extension of UbuntuPro product includes many new open source components. Users can no longer rely on traditional Deb packages, but can maintain from source code to minimize the attack surface of containers, thereby enhancing security and helping to comply with various regulatory standards.

TapTechNews note: UbuntuPro is an Ubuntu version provided by Canonical for the public cloud, focusing on enterprise and production uses. It is based on Ubuntu components, but provides a set of other services that are available out of the box. UbuntuPro also provides Extended Security Maintenance (ESM).
