Transsion's TECNO Partners with Nanyang Technological University for Skin Color Research

TapTechNews June 12th news, the technology brand TECNO under Transsion today announced a strategic cooperation with the Asian Communication Research Centre (ACRC) of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Through in-depth research on the skin color characteristics and portrait aesthetic trends in Southeast Asia, they will jointly improve the technology of TECNO UniversalTone in multi-skin-color portrait photography of smartphones.

The Shaw Foundation Professor of Media Technology at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Qiu Linchuan, will lead the research team to guide this cooperation. Team members include Professor May O. Lwin, the chairperson of Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, and associate professors Elison Lim and Lewis Lim of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University.

Transsion stated that the team will conduct targeted research in Indonesia and the Philippines based on this cooperation to establish a regional aesthetic and cultural preference benchmark for Southeast Asian portraits and lay the foundation for Southeast Asian mobile phone portrait photography technology.

TapTechNews noticed that TECNO had previously teamed up with the University of Leeds in the UK to jointly promote global skin color and color research. In September 2023, TECNO launched the UniversalTone multi-skin-color imaging technology and advocated the concept of inclusive multi-skin-color imaging globally. TECNO claims to have established the largest and most accurate skin color database in the industry. Currently, this technology has been applied to TECNO's CAMON 30 series mobile phones.
