Tesla's Robotaxi Faces Challenges in Profitability

TapTechNews June 12th - According to a report by Bloomberg, Morgan大通 analyst Ryan Brinkman wrote in a report to clients that Tesla's Robotaxi (driverless taxi) business will be difficult to turn a profit in the short term, and this conclusion may disappoint some investors.

On Tuesday local time, Brinkman wrote in the report that it is expected that Tesla will showcase a Robotaxi concept vehicle on August 8th and may also launch a supporting application and disclose more information related to its expected business model. But we expect that in the next few years (Tesla) is unlikely to generate substantial revenue.

He stated that Tesla will produce Robotaxi on the next-generation vehicle platform, and this platform will only be launched when Tesla is closer to fully utilizing the existing capacity, which may still take several years.

Tesla's investor relations team told Ryan Brinkman that the next wave of the company's growth will be dominated by the launch of a low-cost model, which is expected to be mass-produced before next year. This vehicle will utilize the existing platform and assembly line instead of the next-generation platform (TapTechNews note: expected to be launched in 2027).

After finding that significant price cuts failed to effectively stimulate Tesla's sales, Musk reoriented the company's development direction around Robotaxi. It has been reported that Musk previewed the concept of driverless taxis at least 8 years ago, but Tesla has still not established the supporting facilities related to this service and has not obtained regulatory approval to test driverless cars on public roads.

According to a previous TapTechNews report, Musk disclosed in April that Tesla plans to release the fully autonomous driverless taxi Robotaxi on August 8th. The Elon Musk Biography written by Walter Isaacson once disclosed that this Robotaxi may adopt a cyberpunk style design similar to Cybertruck.
