Nintendo President Warns of Longer and More Complex Game Development Process

TapTechNews May 12th News, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said he believes that the time required for company game development will increase and the production difficulty will also be greater as time goes on.

Recently, Furukawa has attracted attention for sharing a lot of important information about Switch and its upcoming successor. The Nintendo executive just confirmed on Twitter that the company plans to officially announce the news of Nintendo Switch 2 within this fiscal year. This undoubtedly excites Nintendo fans, but in addition, Furukawa also shared some more interesting details in Nintendo's recent financial results conference call.

TapTechNews noticed that in these discussions, a series of comments by Furukawa painted a worrying picture of the future development of Nintendo and even the entire gaming industry. According to a recent article in the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Furukawa said that he believes game development will inevitably become longer, more complex, and sophisticated in the future. He further elaborated on this, stating that Nintendo will continue to collaborate with developers who understand the brand to obtain more human resources to assist in future console manufacturing development. This indicates that while the demand for game developers will be greater in the future, Nintendo will still be as selective as ever in choosing partner companies.

However, Furukawa also made a surprising suggestion that Nintendo may engage in some mergers and acquisitions in the future to address the increasingly harsh conditions of game development. This is somewhat unexpected, as Nintendo is not known for large-scale acquisitions of studios like its competitors Microsoft and Sony. The company has always adhered to a frugal principle in acquiring studios, but as Furukawa hinted, if necessary in the future, Nintendo may need to acquire more development teams to assist in the development of upcoming AAA games.
