TapTechNews noticed that Bugatti, which once dominated the speed record list, announced in 2019 that it would no longer pursue the highest speed record. At that time, Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann said that the goal of creating the fastest production car had been achieved and the future would focus on other areas. However, five years later, his successor Mate Rimac had a different idea.

Rimac, the Croatian genius who created the nearly 2000-horsepower Rimac Nevera, took over Bugatti in 2021. Under his leadership, Bugatti launched a new Tourbillon model, equipped with a hybrid system - a new 8.3-liter V16 engine combined with three electric motors, with a total power of 1775 horsepower.

During the Monterey Car Week, Rimac said in an interview: In the past, we no longer pursued speed records, but now it's different. He also emphasized that Bugatti will challenge the speed limit in a more comfortable and emotional way.

Rimac is known for his tough character. From modifying a BMW 3 Series in the garage as a teenager to founding his own electric supercar company, he has overcome countless difficulties along the way. During the development of Concept One, he refused the generous investment from the Abu Dhabi royal family and insisted on staying in Croatia.

Rimac said that he is currently under tremendous pressure, having to innovate while maintaining Bugatti's legendary status. He acknowledged that this process is full of challenges, but he also said that he loves this job and is willing to continue to go all out.
