According to public information, the SAIC R&D Institute was established in 2022, mainly responsible for the vehicle integration including software and hardware, as well as the unified development of architecture technology and common high-value modules; the construction and implementation of forward-looking original technologies and advanced processes and related capabilities; and supporting the development of personalized parts of each brand in a unified development environment.

The SAIC R&D Institute previously provided vehicle development services to Roewe, MG, IM and RISING AUTO, and had an independent financial and personnel system. Relatively, SAIC's IM and RISING AUTO had certain development autonomy. Subsequently, the R&D power of all sub-brands under SAIC will be concentrated in the institute for unified development.

In addition to SAIC, Great Wall and BYD are all like this (in the middle of last year, BYD established three independent sub-brand engineering institutes, TENZA, YANGWANG and FANGCHENGBAO, on the basis of the general engineering institute).
