China's Maritime Support Industry Makes Great Progress

According to TapTechNews on July 2nd, as a pioneering, fundamental, and strategic project for accelerating the construction of a powerful transportation country and a powerful maritime country, China's maritime support industry has achieved remarkable development.

According to the latest statistical data from the Ministry of Transport, from January to June this year, the number of ships entering and leaving China's coastal and inland ports reached 15.2117 million, and the cargo throughput reached 9.184 billion tons, with year-on-year growth rates of 14.35% and 4.85% respectively.

The official said that at present, China has built the largest maritime support system in the world, realizing 'one map coverage' of coastal port channels and 'one network penetration' of coastal water safety communication.

It is introduced that the number of coastal beacons in China has increased from 12,200 in 2013 to 20,600 in 2023, an increase of 68.8%, and all beacon telemetry and remote control have been Beidou-based.

At present, China has built a coastal Beidou ground-based augmentation system composed of 23 Beidou differential stations and 75 Beidou continuously operating reference stations, which can provide high-precision navigation and positioning services at the centimeter level.

Data shows that China's nautical chart service has evolved from mainly paper nautical charts in 2013 to full coverage of electronic nautical charts and providing online publishing and update services. In 2023, 4.92 million Chinese coastal electronic nautical charts were issued.

In addition, China has also built a water safety communication network, which, as a part of the global maritime distress and safety system, provides maritime distress safety communication services. As known to TapTechNews, China is also actively promoting 4G/5G construction and satellite communication applications, and continuously improving satellite broadband data communication capabilities.
