The Silicon Motion SM2508 controller complies with the NVMe2.0 specification. It adopts the TSMC 6nm EUV process, is equipped with 4 Arm Cortex-R8 cores, is equipped with 8 NAND flash channels, and supports a 3600MT/s flash interface rate, and the external cache supports up to (LP)DDR4-3200.

Silicon Motion stated that the SM2508 controller can show excellent PCIe5.0 performance with a body power consumption of 3 watts and a full-disk power consumption of 7 watts: the body power consumption of the SM2508 is only half that of the competitor in the 12nm process, and the full-disk energy efficiency ratio can also reach 1.7 times that of the competitor.

Silicon Motion's senior vice president of client and automotive storage business, Nelson Duann, said:

Solid-state drive storage solutions are constantly evolving to meet the new challenges brought by future AI applications, which require data efficiency and high-performance models.

Our PCIe Gen5 solid-state drive controllers have the best energy efficiency in their class, aiming to meet the unique needs of today's AI-capable PCs, providing high performance and high energy efficiency to meet the evolving AI PC standards in the future.

TapTechNews learned that the SM2508 controller is expected to enter the mass production stage in the fourth quarter of this year.
