Anthropic's AI development approach resonates strongly with my own beliefs, Kingma wrote. Looking forward to contributing to Anthropic's mission - responsibly developing powerful AI systems. Can't wait to work with their talented team, including some excellent former colleagues from OpenAI and Google, and to address the challenges of the future!

Kingma obtained a Ph.D. in machine learning from the University of Amsterdam. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Google for several years, and then joined the founding team of OpenAI as a research scientist. At OpenAI, Kingma focused on fundamental research, leading the algorithm team to develop techniques and methods mainly used in generating AI models, including image generators (such as DALL-E3) and large language models (such as ChatGPT).

In 2018, Kingma left OpenAI to become a part-time angel investor and advisor for AI startups. He rejoined Google in July of that year and served in the GoogleBrain artificial intelligence research and development laboratory.

According to TapTechNews' previous reports, Anthropic has currently hired a number of former OpenAI executives. The company recruited OpenAI's former security director JanLeike in May and another OpenAI co-founder JohnSchulman in August.
