The previous Blue Disk series of consumer-level internal solid-state drives of Western Digital can be traced back to the SN580 released in the middle of 2023.

The SN580 supports PCIe Gen4, but its sequential read and write rates are only 4150 MB/s, far lower than the theoretical upper limit of Gen4x4.

WDBlueSN5000 is expected to achieve a relatively significant improvement in sequential speed, reaching the 6000 MB/s level, keeping up with the PCSN5000S that Western Digital launched for the OEM side.

Western Digital also announced that the previously launched flagship-level PCIe Gen4 consumer-end solid-state drive retail version WD_BLACKSN850X will also have an 8TB version this summer.
