On June 15th, the Tribeca Film Festival will premier the Sora Short Film in cooperation with OpenAI. At that time, five short film works created using artificial intelligence will be showcased, marking the first appearance of OpenAI's text-to-video tool Sora on a film festival.

According to the statement released by the film festival, the creators promised to abide by the relevant terms regarding the use of artificial intelligence that were reached with the directors', actors', and screenwriters' guilds last year. The organizers provided these filmmakers with training on OpenAI tools, the opportunity to use Sora in advance, and the freedom to create independently, and required them to complete the works within a few weeks.

OpenAI launched Sora in February, aiming to understand and simulate the physical world in motion. Although the tool has not been publicly released, OpenAI claims that it can generate videos up to one minute long based on text.

TapTechNews noted that initially, some senior Hollywood professionals regarded this technology as a threat. After seeing the capabilities of Sora, the filmmaker Tyler Perry suspended his $800 million studio expansion plan. However, later, some creators who had the opportunity to use Sora said that Sora enhanced their creative process. They were able to convey abstract concepts more clearly and visualize ideas in new ways. At the same time, they didn't feel the threat of being replaced.
