Huawei at 2024 MWC Shanghai 5G-A and Its Impact

TapTechNews June 26th. The 2024 MWC Shanghai Telecom Exhibition kicks off today, and Wang Tao, Executive Director of Huawei and Director of the ICT Infrastructure Business Management Committee, attended and delivered a speech.

He said: At present, more than 60 carriers and partners have announced the arrival of the commercial first year of 5G-A. At the same time, 5G terminals are also ready. This year, there will be more than 30 mobile phones and CPEs to fully support 5G-A, which will continue to push the digital wave forward.

5G is the fastest-growing generation of mobile communication technology in the world, and the first standard version of 5G-A, 3GPP Rel-18, was officially frozen on June 18 this year. This is a milestone event in the development of the 5G industry, marking that 2024 becomes the commercial first year of 5G-A.

On June 25, Huawei and 5G-A carriers jointly released the 5G-A Commercial Pilot Program. Wang Tao said:

5G-A is a definite industrial path. On one hand, it can protect existing investments, and on the other hand, it can bring new business opportunities and broaden business boundaries. Facing 2030, the whole industry needs to continuously promote the enhancement of 5G-A technology and promote the healthy development of the 5G industry, so that 5G has more lasting vitality and fully realizes the vision of 5G changing society.

For AI, Wang Tao pointed out: In 2024, the commercial first year of 5G-A and the first year of AI entering terminals collide, which will open the era of mobile AI and make intelligent services ubiquitous.

In the face of the broad opportunities in the mobile AI era, Wang Tao believes that 5G-A is an important pillar of the mobile AI era, and the industry needs to accelerate the development of 5G-A from the two dimensions of Network for AI and AI for Network.
