Meta to Shut Down Workplace in 2026 and Focus on Metaverse and AI Development

TapTechNews May 15th news, Meta announced today that it will shut down its enterprise communication software Workplace on June 1, 2026, focusing its development on the metaverse and AI fields.

Meta stated that users can continue to use all Workplace functions as usual until August 31, 2025; from September 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, access will be restricted to read-only, allowing users to view content and download data, but not to post any new content or make any changes; all access will be closed on June 1, 2026.

Meta mentioned that users can download their Workplace data, including profile information, posts, and chat messages, with the permission of administrators. Throughout the transition period, Workplace administrators will have account management and customer support.

TapTechNews note: Workplace is an enterprise software that allows businesses to use it as an internal social network for employee communication. The service was launched in 2016, with clients such as Spotify and Starbucks using the application.
