New High-Speed Rail Section Starts Operation in China, Connecting Key Cities

TapTechNews June 29th news, the newly built Lanzhou-Zhangye High-speed Railway's Zhongchuan Airport to Wuwei East Section was officially put into operation today, which also marks that the important Silk Road town of Wuwei City has been connected to the national high-speed railway network and further improves the rail transit network in the Hexi Corridor.

According to the official introduction, this project is mainly invested and constructed by the China State Railway Group. It is a crucial transportation artery of the national Belt and Road Initiative and the Silk Road economic belt. It is also the only high-speed railway line connecting cities such as Lanzhou, Wuwei, Jinchang, and Zhangye in the western golden economic belt of Gansu Province.

TapTechNews learned from public information that the Lan-Wu section has a total length of approximately 194.3 miles (about 312.6 kilometers), with a designed speed of 155 miles per hour (about 250 kilometers per hour). It starts from Zhongchuan Airport Station in Lanzhou New Area of Lanzhou City, passes through Yongdeng County of Lanzhou City, Tianzhu County and Gula County of Wuwei City to Wuwei urban area. There are altogether 5 stations along the line, namely Yongdeng North, Tianzhu West, Heisongyi (passing station), Gula North, and Wuwei East.

The official pointed out that the Lanzhou-Zhangye High-speed Railway is a major project in the national medium- and long-term railway network planning and the railway development plans of the 12th Five-Year Plan and the 13th Five-Year Plan. After its completion and opening to traffic, it is of great significance for further improving the high-speed railway network layout in the western region and promoting the economic and social development of cities along the line.

The highest speed of the Lanzhou-Zhangye High-speed Railway Lan-Wu section operates at 155 miles per hour (about 250 kilometers per hour). The railway department arranges the operation of passenger trains according to daily lines and weekend lines. The maximum number of daily bullet trains operating can reach 20. Among them, from Wuwei East to Lanzhou West Station can be reached in the fastest 1 hour and 56 minutes, which is 58 minutes shorter than the current ordinary passenger trains; from Wuwei East to Zhongchuan Airport can be reached in the fastest 1 hour and 11 minutes.
