Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link A New Route with High Traffic Flow and Its Regulations_0

According to CCTV News, currently, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link undertakes about a quarter of the total vehicle flow across the Pearl River Estuary. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link network dispatching center, the highway administration department, and the traffic police departments in Shenzhen and Zhongshan as well as the adjacent sections have established a multi-party linkage mechanism to ensure the safe and smooth passage of the link. In the first month of opening to traffic, the safety situation of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has been basically stable and improving, and 95% are minor rear-end accidents.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link integrates bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interchanges. It is about 15 miles (approx. 24 kilometers) long. It is about 18.6 miles (approx. 30 kilometers) north of the Humen Bridge and about 19.2 miles (approx. 31 kilometers) south of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. It starts from the Shenzhen Airport Interchange, crosses the Lingdingyang Sea Area to the west, connects with the Nanzhong Expressway through the Wanqingsha Interchange, lands on the Ma'an Island in Zhongshan City, and connects with the Zhongkai Expressway.

TapTechNews noticed that the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link implements lane-by-lane speed limits throughout the line. There are four lanes in one direction. The left two lanes are dedicated lanes for small passenger cars with a speed limit of 62.5 miles per hour (approx. 100 kilometers per hour), and the right two lanes have no restrictions on vehicle types with a speed limit of 56 miles per hour (approx. 90 kilometers per hour).

On the first day of the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, there were also many illegal parking behaviors, and some drivers deliberately slowed down to watch and take pictures of the underwater tunnel floodlights, causing some traffic congestion.

There is no service area along the 15-mile (approx. 24 kilometers) of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, and there is no emergency lane in the underwater tunnel section. Therefore, the majority of drivers must not park illegally or get off to take pictures on the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. In non-emergency situations, parking and illegally occupying the emergency lane are not allowed.
