LG Unveils High-Brightness OLEDoS Panel for VR Headsets

TapTechNews on May 16th, LG recently launched an OLEDoS panel specially designed for VR headsets, with a brightness of up to 10,000 nits and a resolution of 4000PPI. It is expected to be used in future MetaQuest headsets.

TapTechNews found that the reason this panel can achieve a peak brightness of 10,000 nits is due to the use of Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, which can maximize light emission efficiency, claiming that brightness can be increased by up to 40%. For comparison, the current MetaQuest 3 headset only provides 100 nits of brightness, while Apple's VisionPro panel can reach 5000 nits.

Using high-brightness panels in VR can simulate more realistic lighting effects, making objects emit light like in the real world. However, considering battery life, although the related panels can achieve a brightness of 10,000 nits, it is expected that VR headset manufacturers will make adjustments to meet hardware and human health requirements.
