As the latest bi-weekly development version, Wine 9.12 has been officially released today, focusing on introducing the CMD.EXE engine rewritten by CodeWeavers, which fixes multiple bugs existing in the previous CMD.EXE when interpreting commands, and can handle more commands more correctly.

Wine 9.12 also initially supports the user32 data structure in shared storage, updates the Mono 9.2 engine, fixes the handling of asynchronous I/O status in the WOW64 mode, and fixes 24 known errors.

Wine 9.12 also fixes window border issues, as well as problems with Assassins' Creed and other games.

TapTechNews note: Wine is a free and open-source compatibility layer that makes it possible to run some Windows applications on computers running Linux, FreeBSD, or some other operating systems. It is also the basis of the Proton software that Valve uses to allow SteamDeck users to play Windows games on Linux-powered handheld devices.
