TapTechNews noted that just one year ago in June 2023, Tesla announced that the 4680 battery production at the Texas GigaFactory had exceeded 10 million. Tesla has always emphasized that the 4680 battery is an important part of its electric vehicle development strategy and will be an important support for its continuously growing electric vehicle production capacity.

Although the overall vehicle production of Tesla in 2024 is expected to increase only slightly as the company is in between two growth waves. However, Tesla plans to make a breakthrough by introducing new models based on the next-generation platform, and the first model is the Tesla Robotaxi self-driving taxi to be released on August 8th.

During the earnings call in the first quarter, Tesla said that the capacity climb of the 4680 battery is progressing smoothly and is ahead of the soon-to-be-mass-produced Cybertruck pickup. Thanks to the increase in capacity, the cost of the 4680 battery has also decreased.
