Irish DPC Sues X Platform for Misusing User Data

TapTechNews August 8th news, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) filed a lawsuit in the High Court, accusing X platform owned by Elon Musk of misusing user data for training enhanced search tools such as the GrokAI model.

The DPC has entrusted the Remy Farrell SC law firm to file the lawsuit, alleging that Twitter International Unlimited Company has failed to comply with its obligations under the GDPR by using user data to train Grok.

The DPC said that although the X platform has provided mitigation measures such as opting out, the company still collects a large amount of EU user data. In the lawsuit, the DPC seeks a court order to prohibit or limit X from using users' personal data to develop, train or improve its artificial intelligence system. The DPC plans to submit this matter to the European Data Protection Board for review.

TapTechNews reported on July 27th this year that the social platform X owned by Elon Musk used users' tweet content for training the GrokAI model without clearly notifying users, and this option was enabled by default.
