OpenAI to Invest 60M USD in Opal for AI Device R & D

TapTechNews August 8th news, the tech media TheInformation reported yesterday (August 7th) that OpenAI plans to invest 60 million US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 430 million Chinese yuan) in Opal Company for the research and development of AI devices related to creativity.

Introduction to Opal Company

Opal Company, fully named OpalCameraInc., is a digital hardware manufacturer that sells webcams.

The company's flagship product is named Tadpole, which costs 149 US dollars. It has the shape of a 1.25-inch square and weighs about the same as an AA battery and can be clipped onto the screen of a laptop.

Tadpole can record videos with a resolution of up to 3840 pixels by 2160 pixels, and details such as brightness can be customized using the Composer companion app.

Opal Company's Latest Plan to Hold Series B Financing

Opal Company plans to hold a Series B financing round, led by OpenAI, with FoundersFund and KindredVentures and other investors participating.

It is reported that after Opal completes this Series B financing, it will continue to produce webcams and may divert some resources to the research and development of AI devices used as creative tools.
