IGN Acquires GamerNetwork from ReedPop, Layoffs Follow

TapTechNews May 22nd news, IGN Entertainment announced on the 21st local time that it has acquired GamerNetwork from the pop culture event producer ReedPop for an undisclosed amount, bringing a major consolidation in the game news industry.

According to TapTechNews' previous reports, ReedPop once hosted the E3 game show and is still the operator of large-scale anime and game exhibitions such as PAX and the New York Comic Con. It purchased GamerNetwork in 2018.

GamerNetwork operates several well-known game media, including Eurogamer, Gamesindustry.biz, RockPaperShotgun, VG247, and the tabletop game media Dicebreaker.

Through this acquisition, IGN also obtained partial stakes in media such as DigitalFoundry.

Gamesindustry.biz reported that IGN initiated a round of layoffs after completing the acquisition.

According to the statement of the X platform user AmericanTruckSongs9 (@ethangach), many important editors including the editor-in-chief of Gamesindustry.biz, BrendanSinclair, were fired.
