Didi Dealing with Cheating Drivers and Black-Market Software in Ride-Hailing

TapTechNews July 20th news, according to a report by China Business News today, recently a netizen爆料 that when he took a ride-hailing car in Shanghai, the distance from his location to the destination was 5 miles, and the estimated price was $4.65, but after the trip was completed, it showed that the journey passed through Wujiang District, Suzhou City, 100 miles, and the charge was more than $30.86.

This netizen反馈 to the Didi customer service. The previous response did not mention the problem of unreasonable route. After his continuous complaint, Didi finally found out the situation of the driver modifying the journey.

The person in charge of Didi customer service responded that currently, the passenger has been given a free ride, and the driver has been banned due to cheating by the driver. After verification, the abnormality of this order is that the driver modified the vehicle's positioning through a black-market software, resulting in corresponding changes in the order's mileage and amount.

Didi said that after the passenger filed a complaint, the platform customer service once contacted the driver for verification and relayed the driver's statement that was obviously not in line with the occasion. The anti-cheating team later identified the abnormal bill and banned the driver.

A Didi driver's statement quoted in the report said that the cheating software he observed was more for grabbing big orders, and 2 out of 10 drivers around were using it, as simple as buying things on Taobao. Drivers who use the cheating software need to join a group. If there is a driver using it, he will introduce other drivers to join the group to buy mobile phones. The other party will mail the mobile phone with all relevant software installed to the driver, and directly use the purchased mobile phone to log in and run orders. The salesperson will remotely tell the driver how to operate, and if the mobile phone is broken, it can also be replaced directly.

It is known that the cost of such a special mobile phone is $154.32 - $308.64, and the monthly service fee is $77.16 - $123.44. This driver also said that the platform's management of such phenomena is not strict: If the platform discovers it, it will ban for one day, the second time it will ban for three days, and the third time it will ban for seven days. During the ban period, the driver can take orders on other platforms, and the impact is not great.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, in 2023, Didi claimed to have identified and managed more than 200 types of cheating devices, and more than 1000 drivers have been banned by the platform due to repeated cheating.
