TapTechNews June 1st news, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa announced the cancellation of the dearMoon mission this Saturday, which was a private lunar orbit flight.
Yusaku Maezawa is the founder of the Japanese fast fashion giant Zozotown. As a avid art collector, he also limited the search range of the lunar orbit trip to artists.
TapTechNews note: Yusaku Maezawa booked SpaceX's first lunar orbit mission in 2018; in March 2021, he launched the dearMoon project and selected 6 to 8 artists to join him on the lunar orbit trip implemented by SpaceX. He hoped at that time that the members could cover people from various backgrounds.
However, Maezawa's team released a statement saying that the original goal was to complete the lunar orbit flight with celebrities on board by the end of last year, but this goal became unfeasible.
Maezawa's company said: Due to the lack of a clear timetable in the near future, Maezawa with a heavy heart decided to cancel this project. We express our sincere gratitude to all those who supported this project and looked forward to this effort, and apologize for this result.
The official statement did not mention more details about the cancellation of this event.
