102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb EVs Shine and Records Broken

TapTechNews June 24 news, in the just past weekend, the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb was held in Colorado, and electric vehicles (EVs) became the biggest highlight of this competition, and several electric racing cars broke the existing records.

This event has a history of 102 years. The official website information shows that the competition route is extremely harsh, with a starting altitude of 9,390 feet (about 2,862 meters) and an ending altitude of 14,100 feet (about 4,300 meters). The final champion is a modified Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck, driven by Roman Dumas, the record holder in the history of the Pikes Peak track, and this racing car is nicknamed the Super Truck.

TapTechNews noticed that Dumas finished the race with a time of 8:53.553, leading the 2024 Wolf Aurobay GB082.0 HP racing car ranked second by about 11 seconds. The complete competition ranking can be queried on the LiveTiming website.

Other notable electric racing cars include the Hyundai Ioniq5 NTA modified racing car driven by the famous Spanish rally driver Dani Sordo; and the local driver Gardner Nichols from Colorado, who participated in the race with a Rivian R1T racing car with a unique livery.

Dani Sordo driving the Ioniq5 N achieved the third-place result with a time of 9:30.852. At the same time, Nichols finished the race with a time of 10:53.883, breaking his fastest mass-produced electric truck record (regardless of power type) maintained last year.

It is worth mentioning that an electric vehicle was used as the pace car for the first time in this year's event, and this pace car is the Acura ZDX.
