For the first-generation HoloLens launched in 2016, Microsoft will end its software support after December 10 this year, and this head-mounted display has not been produced since 2018.

In fact, Microsoft has been in deep trouble with HoloLens in the past two years. For example, the former head of HoloLens, Alex Kipman, left the company due to accusations of improper behavior in 2022, and then after a large round of layoffs in 2023 and changed its hardware portfolio. In addition, the HoloLens 2 team has also been affected by another round of Microsoft layoffs earlier this year.

According to UploadVR reports, Microsoft has cancelled the development plan of HoloLens 3, but hinted that it will make a meaningful update to the hardware at an appropriate time. In addition, Microsoft also told UploadVR that it is still fully committed to the military HoloLens IVAS. TapTechNews found that the US Army plans to conduct company-level combat tests of this product in early 2025 and plans to decide whether to put into full production at the end of 2025.
