Fisker Recalls Thousands of Ocean Vehicles Amid Bankruptcy

TapTechNews June 29th news, comprehensively reported by Reuters and Insideevs today, the American new car-making force Fisker recently issued a recall order, requiring to stop selling all 2023 Ocean models produced in the US until May this year (TapTechNews note: currently the company only has the Ocean model for sale), because there is a risk that the door handle may get stuck, resulting in passengers being unable to get in and out of the car by opening the door.

Fisker is currently in the bankruptcy process and is likely to face liquidation, and this recall is a further blow. The Fisker side said that the problem is caused by the size change of the door handle size. Door handles that do not meet the specifications may generate extra friction and fail to generate sufficient retraction force. In some cases, the door handle outside the car may get stuck, preventing customers from entering and exiting. After a thorough investigation, Fisker confirmed that this is a potential safety hazard. If the vehicle cannot be opened properly due to a door mechanical failure, this problem becomes very serious.

The company said in a statement that 8204 Ocean vehicles are recalled in the US, 513 in Canada, and 3806 in Europe, with a total recall of 12523 vehicles.

This is the second time Fisker has stopped selling in less than a month. Earlier this month, Fisker recalled more than 18,000 Ocean cars in North America and Europe due to software glitches and non-compliance with safety standards, and plans to solve the problem through OTA software upgrade.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, in the middle of this month, Fisker has already applied for bankruptcy protection. This start-up company said earlier this year that the negotiation with a large automaker ended, leading Fisker to start looking for other strategic options, including in-court or out-of-court restructuring and capital market transactions.
