Shanghai Jiao Tong University Develops Guide Six-Legged Robot

TapTechNews on May 29th, it was learned from Shanghai Jiao Tong University that the team of Professor Gao Feng from the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University has developed a guide six-legged robot, which has the function of visual environment perception and can navigate autonomously to the destination, dynamically avoid obstacles, and recognize traffic lights.

The guide six-legged robot can effectively reduce the cost through mass production and solve the problem of the shortage of guide dogs; through the establishment of an Internet service system in the background, it can also realize functions such as home care and emergency handling.

Three interaction methods of hearing, touch, and force sense are integrated on the guide robot to realize human-machine intelligent perception and compliant behavior between the blind and the guide six-legged robot.

The robot can understand semantic information based on the end-to-end speech recognition model of deep learning according to the blind person's voice instructions. Currently, the speech recognition accuracy rate is above 90%, and the response speed is within 1 second. Instructions can be issued to the robot through voice, such as: start, stop, set the destination, accelerate, decelerate, etc., and the robot feeds back information such as walking and environmental conditions in real time to realize two-way interaction.

The blind cane can realize the force sense interaction between the blind and the guide robot, providing traction and steering torque to the blind to guide the blind to move forward and turn, and at the same time, the blind can push and pull the blind cane to dynamically adjust the walking speed of the robot.

Currently, the robot has a maximum speed of 9.84 feet per second, which can meet the travel needs of the blind, and the six-legged configuration ensures that the robot can walk stably with low noise.
