Apple Releases New White Paper and Expands Repair Program

TapTechNews June 26th news, Apple today released a new white paper titled 'Longevity, Derived from Design', and at the same time announced the expansion of the 'Self-Service Repair Program' to the European market.

This white paper focuses on the concepts of durability, repairability, and 'the truth of parts pairing' in Apple products. In addition, this new white paper also contains some data about Apple products, which TapTechNews summarizes as follows:

Compared to Android smartphones, the retention rate of the iPhone is at least 40% higher, and as the model ages, this gap will further widen.

There are hundreds of millions of iPhones that have been in use for more than five years, and this number is still growing. Overall, the service life of Apple products is longer than that of competitors' devices.

From 2015 to 2022, the out-of-warranty repair rate has dropped by 38%.

Since the introduction of the new casing design in the iPhone 7 series, the overall repair rate for accidental damage to the iPhone has dropped by 44%.

After the introduction of the splash-proof design in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7Plus, the repair rate for liquid damage has dropped by 75%.

After treating the iPhone 15 rear glass repair as a separate repair item, the customer's repair cost has been reduced by more than 60%.

85% of the US population is no more than 30 minutes' drive from the location of the Apple Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), or an Independent Repair Provider (IRP).

According to a study by UL Solutions, 88% of third-party batteries caught fire or exploded in at least one test.

Finally, Apple also explained its controversial repair practice - parts pairing:

Parts pairing is a common practice of using software to identify component parts through unique identifiers. Apple uses parts pairing to make it easier and more transparent for customers to get repair services, while ensuring that each device and its stored data remain safe and perform at their best. This is not to force consumers to go to Apple Stores for repairs - in fact, less than a third of Apple's out-of-warranty repairs are done.

In addition, between 2015 and 2022, the in-warranty and out-of-warranty repair rates of Apple have decreased by 78% and 38% respectively, which reflects the improvement of equipment quality and reliability.
