Apple Rumored to Secure TSMC's 2nm and Future A16 Production Capacity for iPhone 17Pro

TapTechNews September 17th news, according to Taiwan media Economic Daily report today, Apple's iPhone 16 series TSMC 3nm family process is in hot sales. It is rumored in the industry that Apple has definitely booked TSMC's 2nm and the first batch of subsequent A16 production capacity, and the 2nm production capacity is expected to be fully introduced in the next year's iPhone 17Pro to grab the first fragrance at the earliest.

TSMC has always not commented on individual customers and market rumors, and Apple has also not commented on relevant news.

According to Taiwan media reports, Apple will use TSMC's 2nm process to handle the mobile phone chips of iPhone 17Pro and 17ProMax. As for the rumored iPhone 17Air ultra-thin model to be launched, it may continue to use the 3nm family process.

The industry points out that after Apple fully upgraded and expanded the use of TSMC's 3nm family process in this year's iPhone 16 chips, due to the subsequent enhancement of AI functions, it has successively planned to use more advanced processes. Coupled with the positive feedback from other non-Apple customers, such as Intel's NovaLake platform will also use TSMC's 2nm and queue up to 2026, also making TSMC's 2nm obtain market demand beyond expectations before it is mass-produced.

The industry believes that TSMC's 2nm production capacity factory will include four phases that can be built in Baoshan, Zhukeng, and the second phase in Kaohsiung. If the plan comes true, it will help the 2nm family sprint the production capacity of at least eight factories in eight phases.

TapTechNews learned from public information that TSMC continues to advance the goal of mass production of 2nm process in 2025. Previously, the first Baoshan factory of 2nm has entered equipment in April 2024, and the subsequent Baoshan second factory also maintains the progress. The Kaohsiung factory plans to expand 2nm, and the relevant equipment is scheduled to enter the machine as early as the third quarter of 2025. If the Southern Science Park also joins the production, it is estimated that it will continue to mass produce and expand from the end of 2025 to 2026.
