Ubisoft had previously announced that it will not use a player skill-based matchmaking system (SBMM) in the casual mode of XDefiant, which is to convince players who are bothered by similar systems in games such as Call of Duty to try this new title.

Ubisoft also promised that XDefiant will never include any Pay-to-Win game content or features. The development team said: Any purchasable content that will affect the gameplay can be unlocked through in-game challenges to ensure fair competition in our community.

XDefiant will also include a season pass, but the included content will mainly be cosmetic items, including character skins, weapon skins, MVP player animations, player nameplates, and emoticons, etc.

Ubisoft also mentioned, Our goal is to provide amazing customization options and reward all the matches, victories, and even losses you invest in the game. When you choose to play another round, all your time and energy will be able to unlock content in the battle pass or by completing challenges.

Regarding the issue that the game appearance may have an impact on the game balance (TapTechNews note: for example, Call of Duty has launched several stealth skins), Ubisoft said:

We know this is an important topic. This is a topic that requires reflection and careful evaluation. As XDefiant develops, we will listen to your feedback, conduct player surveys, and pay attention to in-game player data to continuously evaluate to ensure that we provide fair and attractive customization options.
