Shenzhou-18 Crew to Conduct First Extravehicular Activity Soon

TapTechNews May 27th, it was learned from Xinhua News Agency that according to the China Manned Space Engineering Office, the crew of the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft will choose an opportune time to carry out the first extravehicular activity in the near future.

TapTechNews noted that since the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft successfully entered the space station complex on April 26, 2024 Beijing time, the crew of the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft has been working and living in orbit for 32 days. At present, the physical and mental states of the three astronauts are good, and various space science experiments and tests are steadily advancing.

In the Wentian laboratory module, 4 zebrafish and hornwort are in good condition in the small controlled life ecological experiment module. At present, the astronauts have successfully carried out two water sample collections and one fish food box replacement operation. Multiple aerospace medical experiments are also continuously carried out. The astronauts used the ultrasonic diagnostic instrument to complete the carotid artery ultrasound image and spectrum test; and used the instrument to detect the bone density of the right heel bone to study the impact of the weightless state on the human bone density.

The crew of the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft will stay in the space station for about 6 months. During the on-orbit period, they will carry out space science and application experiment tests, implement astronaut extravehicular activities and cargo in and out of the cabin, and carry out the installation of the space station space debris protection device, the installation and recovery of external payloads and external equipment. In addition, they will also carry out popular science education and public welfare activities, as well as space-borne experiments.
