Two Chinese Academicians Win 2023 National Highest Science and Technology Award

TapTechNews June 24th news, TapTechNews learned from Xinhua News Agency that the National Science and Technology Conference, the National Science and Technology Award Ceremony, and the Academicians Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering were held in Beijing this (today's) morning. The 2023 National Highest Science and Technology Award was officially announced, and Academician Li Deren and Academician Xue Qikun won the lofty honor in the Chinese scientific and technological community.

Li Deren is a famous photogrammetry and remote sensing scientist, and has been committed to improving the level of surveying, mapping and remote sensing earth observation in China. He was born on December 31, 1939, and obtained a doctorate from the University of Stuttgart in West Germany (at that time) in 1985, and was hired as a professor in the College of Engineering of Peking University in April 2013.

He conquered the core technology of global high-precision positioning and mapping of satellite remote sensing, solved a series of problems in high-precision processing of satellite remote sensing images, led the team to develop a fully automatic high-precision aviation and ground measurement system, and made outstanding contributions to the construction of China's high-precision and high-resolution earth observation system.

Xue Qikun is a well-known scientist in the field of condensed matter physics, and has made many leading important scientific breakthroughs. He was born in December 1962 and obtained a doctorate in science from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in August 1994. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in November 2005, and in December 2020 he served as president and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Southern University of Science and Technology.

He led the team to experimentally observe the quantum anomalous Hall effect for the first time, which has a significant academic impact internationally; in the heterostructure system, he discovered the interface-enhanced high-temperature superconductivity, opening a brand new research direction in the international high-temperature superconductivity field.
