Cainiao and Taobao Hong Kong Station Eliminate Residential Surcharge for Delivery

TapTechNews May 24th news, Cainiao and Taobao Tmall Hong Kong Station (referred to as Taobao Hong Kong Station) jointly announced that from May 24th, there will be no additional residential surcharge for door-to-door delivery across Hong Kong.

TapTechNews noted that users of Cainiao's CAINIAO App can also enjoy the same treatment, that is, the collection and delivery orders other than Taobao can also be exempted from the residential surcharge.

In Hong Kong, an additional residential surcharge is required for delivery to a residential address, which makes some users choose a more economical self-pickup. When users buy large items or for the elderly and women who need to take care of the elderly and children at home, door-to-door delivery still has a considerable market.

Since 2018, Cainiao has built a self-operated logistics network covering the whole of Hong Kong in Hong Kong, including distribution centers, self-pickup points, trunk lines of Hong Kong-China vehicles and local delivery fleets.

Zhao Yiliang, general manager of Cainiao Collection and Delivery Hong Kong Station, said: Cainiao has always been committed to improving the service quality and efficiency of cross-border logistics. Users can choose to pick up items at Cainiao self-pickup points or door-to-door delivery services according to their own needs.

During the Taobao 618 Grand Promotion period (from May 20th to June 20th), each Taobao Hong Kong Station user can receive up to 28 Hong Kong dollars in shipping coupons, and after using the shipping coupons, the cost of door-to-door delivery for some goods will be as low as 3.2 Hong Kong dollars.
