Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Phase III project passed national acceptance in China

Thank you to the TapTechNews for the lead from Mr. Aviation and pgb! TapTechNews reported on May 15th that the 'Twelfth Five-Year Plan' national major scientific infrastructure construction project, the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Phase III project, passed the national acceptance today (May 15th). Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility is mainland China's first third-generation synchrotron radiation facility, which can be likened to a 'super microscope'. Researchers can use the high-quality synchrotron radiation generated by it to better observe the micro world, study the generation and evolution mechanisms of microstructure. The future Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Phase III project will provide technical support to meet national strategic needs, solve cutting-edge scientific problems, and overcome core key technologies. According to the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility official website, Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) is mainland China's first high-energy third-generation synchrotron radiation facility, located in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in Pudong, jointly invested and constructed by the country, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shanghai Municipal Government, started construction on December 25, 2004, and was completed on April 29, 2009, and officially opened to users on May 6. The Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Phase III project is a national major scientific infrastructure construction project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in the 'Twelfth Five-Year Plan', with the main goal of solving national strategic needs and major scientific problems at the forefront of science. The Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Phase III project further develops on the existing Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, with the main construction contents including the construction of 16 performance advanced beamlines and experimental stations, expanding the performance of the light source, establishing user support laboratories and user data centers, etc. The project started construction in November 2016 and will be completed in July 2023. During the construction of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Phase III project, the project team overcame a series of core key technologies, developed a batch of key equipment with international first-class levels, built a batch of beamlines with key performance indicators ranking at the forefront internationally or uniquely positioned, and enhanced the experimental research capabilities of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility. The Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility has a total of 34 beamlines and 46 experimental stations. After the project is put into operation, it will cover multiple multidisciplinary fields such as life sciences, materials science, and chemical catalysis, becoming a major scientific infrastructure with the largest number of beamlines, the widest energy range, and abundant experimental methods among third-generation high-energy synchrotron radiation facilities worldwide.
