Europol Website Hacked by IntelBroker, but Core Systems Unaffected

TapTechNews reported on May 13th that the European law enforcement agency Europol, which often coordinates international efforts against crime and cyber attacks, was attacked by the hacker group IntelBroker last week. The hackers compromised Europol's Europol Platform for Experts (EPE) website used for sharing security knowledge, claiming to have obtained a series of internal data and information about law enforcement members.

A spokesperson from the hacker group IntelBroker has confirmed the incident to the media outlet BleepingComputer. In addition to the Europol EPE website, they claimed to have also compromised the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), the Law Enforcement Forum, and the cross-border digital evidence system SIRIUS.

However, Europol stated to the media that while their EPE website was breached, their core systems were not affected. However, TapTechNews found that Europol did not disclose whether any confidential information was leaked, only stating that the security incident will not have any impact or harm on the internal operations of law enforcement.

TapTechNews noted that the Europol EPE website is still under maintenance and awaits the law enforcement agency to bring the site back online.
