In 2024, GenAI Smartphones Are Shaping the Future of the Smartphone Industry

TapTechNews learned that in the first quarter of 2024, high-end smartphones (wholesale price > 600 US dollars) accounted for more than 70% of the sales of GenAI-functional smartphones. At the same time, only during the first quarter, the number of smartphone models with GenAI functions increased from 16 to more than 30.

Among the top ten GenAI-functional smartphones that were the bestsellers in the first quarter of 2024, Samsung's Galaxy S24 series dominated, occupying the top three positions and obtaining 58% of the market share. Among them, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best-selling GenAI-functional smartphone, with a market share of more than 30%, and GenAI functions such as chat/note assistant, circle-search, and real-time translation are popular among users.

Among the top ten best-selling GenAI-functional smartphones, Chinese brands occupied six positions. Xiaomi 14 and vivo X100 ranked fourth and fifth respectively. Xiaomi, vivo, Honor and OPPO are actively integrating GenAI functions in their products, including AI-generated portraits, AI eraser tools, and powerful offline virtual assistants, etc. Chinese brands' GenAI accounted for one-third of the global market.

CounterpointResearch predicts that in 2024, smartphones with GenAI functions will account for 11% of the overall smartphone sales, and Apple will enter the GenAI field with its 2024 iPhone series later this year.
