Google Introduces New 'Read This Page' Feature for Android Chrome

According to TapTechNews on June 17th, Google is quietly bringing a new feature of Read This Page to the Android version of the Chrome browser, which can directly read the web page content.

The Read This Page feature has control options similar to those of a music or podcast player. Users can pause, adjust the reading speed, fast-forward or rewind by 10 seconds. At the same time, users can also choose the language and voice used for reading according to their personal preferences. According to Google's help page, this feature currently supports multiple languages such as Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, and Spanish.

To check if this feature is enabled on your Chrome, simply open a web page with a large amount of text, then click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and see if there is an option of Read Out the Content of This Webpage below the Translate option.

Previously, users could have a web page read through Google Assistant and could even have language translation done while reading. However, using Google Assistant to read requires leaving Chrome and entering the Google app, while the Read This Page feature can operate entirely within the browser, which is more convenient and quicker.

TapTechNews noticed that Google has also tested the reading function of the desktop version of Chrome, and Apple's Safari browser also has a similar Read Webpage feature that can use Siri's voice to read the web page and provides many control options similar to those of Google Chrome.

This function is being rolled out in stages (server-side update). According to 9to5Google, they have already found this feature in version 125 of the Android version of Chrome, but the author has not found this feature in the official version 125 for the time being. The previous Beta version already supported this feature.
