This policy took effect from July 19th, 2023, but Google quickly made adjustments. A Google spokesperson said, Whether the Pixel phone sent in for repair by the user contains non-original parts or not, Google will not detain it. If there is a security hazard, we may not be able to complete the repair, but will send the phone back to the user or negotiate a follow-up plan with the user. The user can also choose other repair methods that are more suitable for them. We are currently updating the service and repair terms to clarify this point.

TapTechNews noticed that the initial wording of this clause attracted a lot of criticism, and many netizens expressed dissatisfaction on social media, believing that this move is no different from a user sending a car back to the manufacturer for repair, but having the vehicle confiscated because of using non-original parts.

It is worthy of affirmation that Google has made a positive change.
