Apple's Design Team Updates Molly Anderson's Promotion and Search for Hankey's Successor

TapTechNews August 6th news, according to the latest issue of PowerOn reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, currently most of Apple's designers report directly to Molly Anderson. Judging from the quick search results of the US Patent Office, Molly Anderson can be traced back to 2016 in the patents granted by Apple.

TapTechNews noted that since Jony Ive left the Apple design team in 2019, his successor Evans Hankey also left Apple three years later, and most of the designers who worked under Jony Ive and Evans Hankey also left one after another. After Evans Hankey left, the leader of the Apple team has been concurrently held by COO Jeff Williams, which is considered an adjustment in the team structure of Apple - not setting up a position like industrial design director and allowing the designer with the longest tenure to obtain a bigger role, which also reflects the serious problem of designer loss after Ive left.

Gurman pointed out: Apple has made a series of adjustments recently. Although the company has not officially announced the successor of Hankey, Williams is still regarded as the head of all Apple's design departments, but senior designer Molly Anderson has been promoted to industrial design leader. Most Apple designers now report directly to her instead of to Williams.

It is worth noting that, unlike Evans Hankey, Molly Anderson is not a vice president of the company. It is reported that Apple is still looking for the permanent successor of Evans Hankey, which means that the company is still in turmoil in terms of the design leadership structure.
